Metalloinvest and OMK improve quality of railway wheel billets

Metalloinvest and United Metallurgical Company (OMK) have held the latest meeting of the two companies' Coordination Committee. The production and supply of steel concast billets from Ural Steel for the production of railway wheels at Vyksa Steel Works (part of OMK) was discussed at the meeting.

Andrey Prosyanik, Director of Domestic Sales at Management Company Metalloinvest, Igor Sich, Steel Product Sales Director of Management Company Metalloinvest, Evgeny Maslov, Managing Director of JSC Ural Steel, Pavel Stepanov, Director of Engineering and Technical Centre of JSC Vyksa Steel Works (VSW), and other company representatives attended the meeting.

During the discussions, attendees examined the quality of Ural Steel billets and railway wheels from Vyksa Steel Works and mentioned the reduction in the level of product rejections.

Andrey Prosyanik, Domestic Sales Director of Management Company Metalloinvest, commented: “We are constantly striving to improve the quality of billets at Ural Steel and their compliance with the standards of railway lines. This enables our partners to increase the volume of production and supply of railway billets.”

During the coordination meeting, the two parties also agreed on collaborative operations work to track all cases of rejection of railway billets. Additionally, it was decided to carry out collaborative meetings involving specialists from the State Scientific Centre of the Russian Federation Federal State Unitary Enterprise (FSUE) I.P. Bardin Central Research Institute for Ferrous Metallurgy to improve the quality of the billets.

Company representatives proposed ideas for future collaborative work and agreed to carry out the next meeting in November 2018 at the Vyksa Steel Works.

Pavel Stepanov, Director of Engineering and Technical Centre of JSC Vyksa Steel Works (VSW), added: “Having such meetings enables us not only to efficiently solve the ongoing matters, but identify vectors for the development of production in both our interests. This is all aimed at guaranteeing the high quality of our final product, railway billets.”
