Vorkutaugol launched the implementation of up-to-date security communication system

Vorkutaugol (part of Severstal, JSC), launched implementation of the most modern security communication system – Flexcom. Within two years, the company plans to invest about 45 million rubles on system’s development.

Vorkutaugol mines will be among the first in Russia to implement Flexcom security system, developed in Canada. This system consists of a set of integrated communication capabilities: locating of people and equipment in the mines; mobile communication; notification system in case of emergency situations, video surveillance.

The new system’s operation principle is based on a special antenna cable radiating unit, which is used to transmit the data. All data is transmitted to the integrated informational system, where it is processed and displayed on a computer screen.

The system allows to identify the number of employees underground and to locate every miner by his personal identification number. In case of emergency Flexcom system will assist in search and rescue operations.

Radio transmitting cable also ensures underground mobile communication, with the help of portable radio transmitter. Such innovation should increase coordination and efficiency of mining operations, as well as demonstrate positive impact on safety.

Flexcom, ensure underground surveillance. They are designed to, among other things, monitor dangerous areas of the mines.

Mines Komsomolskaya and Severnaya will become the pilot sites for the implementation of the security system. The necessary equipment and electronics have already been purchased and the installment works are in progress. At the Komsomoslkaya mine, the system launch is scheduled for the middle of 2012. In 2013, Flexcom will be launched at Severnaya mine. For the implementation of this project Vorkutaugol is planning to invest about 45 million rubles.
