50 Years of Development in Acroni

50 Years of Development in Acroni

The Development Department of Acroni steelworks of SIJ – Slovenian Steel Group was founded in November 1961 and this year it celebrates 50 years of its existence. In Jesenice, where Acroni is located, development in the steel industry has a rich tradition. It was already established in Kranjska industrijska druћba (Carniolian Industrial Company) in 1872 by Lambert von Pantz who invented the procedure of extracting ferromanganese in a furnace. After 1945 the whole production program was taken over by Jesenice Ironworks which founded its own development department in 1961. The department quickly progressed into an influential institution in the company. With the reorganization of Jesenice Ironworks in 1992, the company Acroni was established, which took over the Development Department. The Department today is based on several centuries of ironwork industry in Slovenia and on half a century of exceptionally organized research work. Acroni’s development engineers very effectively use their know-how to enter new markets and develop competitive products with high added value.
