Chelyabinsk Metallurgical Plant continues to supply Norilsk Nickel with rails
Chelyabinsk Metallurgical Plant (part of Mechel Group) continues its cooperation with Norilsk Nickel on supplies of rails. The plant has just shipped off this year’s first batch of rails to Norilsk Nickel’s Polar Division, in compliance with a new deal cinched by the two companies.

According to the current contract, supplies of rails produced at Chelyabinsk Metallurgical Plant’s universal rolling mill will total some 1.7 thousand tonnes in the first half of 2016. Heat-hardened R50-type rails will be used for repairs and construction of technological rail tracks at Norilsk Nickel’s Polar Division’s facilities.

Chelyabinsk Metallurgical Plant’s rails are compliant with GOST R 51045-2014 standards. Those are heat-hardened wide-gauge rails for rail ports and technological tracks for industrial rail transport.

Chelyabinsk Metallurgical Plant supplied its first shipment of rails to Norilsk Nickel in 2014. That shipment of heat-hardened R50-type rails totaled some 850 tonnes.

These rails are produced at Chelyabinsk Metallurgical Plant’s universal rolling mill whose annual capacity is 1.1 million tonnes and which was launched in 2013. The mill employs international state-of-the-art technologies for rolling, heat treatment, levelling, finishing and quality control. A unique heat treatment technology enables the mill to produce rails with superior qualities, such as wear resistance, durability and endurance limit.
