NLMK plans hot strip finishing modernisation
Novolipetsk Iron and Steel Works will modernise the finishing train at its hot strip mill, according to supplier SMS Demag.
NLMK’s modernisation plan is designed to improve the quality of finished products in thickness profile and flatness.
SMS Demag will supply hydraulic roll-gap adjustment systems, a new profile, contour and flatness control system for the finishing mill and CVC plus technology.
The installation will take place during equipment shutdowns and should be completed by 2011.
Russian steelmakers are currently experiencing high prices for their steel as both the export and domestic markets boom.
NLMK recently made moves to acquire troubled Maxi Group to bolster its presence in the Russian longs market.
NLMK produced just over 9 mln tn of crude steel in 2007, according operational results released this year.
