Armenal launches full-scale production of 7-micron foil
RUSAL, the world’s largest aluminium and alumina producer, announces the launch of full-scale production of ultra thin 7-micron foil at its Armenal foil mill in Armenia. Between 2007 and 2009 the facility invested over USD 6 million in production development with most of the budget allocated to organise production of thin foils, which are the most popular in the global markets.
First lots of 7-micron foil have been shipped. Armenal’s ultra thin foil is designed for further gauging and packaging applications. The product quality and its compliance with packaging standards for food, drugs, and pharmaceuticals were certified by the Russian certification centre Rosstandart, German ISEGA, and other international organisations.
Expansion of ultra thin foil production became possible through the comprehensive modernisation completed at Armenal with over USD 70 million invested in it.
From January through August 2009 the mill produced approximately 14,000 tonnes of foil, up 85% from the same period last year. The product is targeted for customers in the United States, Europe, and the Middle East.
