A new induction furnace is used for gold casting at the “Uralelektromed”.

In the refining department of Chemical Metallurgical plant of JSC “Uralelektromed” (UMMC metallurgical enterprise), a new high efficiency induction unit was launched. The equipment is designated for casting gold into bullions. Its cost totaled 2.8 mln.rub.

According to the deputy of plant supervisor Roman Voinkov, the unit “Parallel IPT-25-10”, which was produced in Ufa, had been developed against the enterprise’s special order within the framework of replacing and modernization of run-down equipment. It consists of two smelter furnaces, cooling system and frequency converter. It can cast 2 golden bullions at once, and they will correspond to GOST requirements.

-When creating a technical task, we imposed special requirements to quality, reliability and performance of equipment, - Roman Voinkov points out.

Therefore, comparing to a former model, frequency converter and cooling station in new casting unit are combined in one case, what turned them into equipment that is more compact. Moreover, the installation allows to use different models of crucible (graphite cylindrical vessel for charging fine gold in a form of powder) – under the necessity to rapidly replace the crucible without additional settings and adjustments. In the new unit a crucible of “Morgan” company is used, which is designed to undertake 250 melts, what is 60 times more than with crucible of other manufacturers.

Technological process of gold casting is carried by highly qualified furnace operator.

Refined gold is loaded into crucible of induction furnace. Casting process is triggered by electromagnetic induction. For 30 minutes, under the temperature of 1100-1150 C° metal is fused to liquid form. The melt is poured from crucible to moulds under flame of gas burner. After casting, a bullion is extracted from moulds, processed and marked.
