Izhorskiye Zavody to manufacture a pressure compensator for Novovoronezhskaya NPP-2

Izhorskiye Zavody, a part of OMZ Group, had passed an acceptance inspection of the pressure compensator for Novovoronezhskaya NPP-2. The inspection was conducted by representatives of OAO Atomenergoprom, OAO Atomenergoproekt, OAO Concern Rosenergoatom (Novovoronezhskaya NPP-2 branch). The committee stated that the pressure compensator fully conforms to the design documentation and the nuclear engineering rules and regulations.

The pressure compensator for Novovoronezhskaya NPP-2 was manufactured 1.5 months ahead of schedule.

A pressure compensator is used to create and maintain pressure in the first circuit of the reactor core, ensuring normal and safe operation of the nuclear power plant.

A pressure compensator is one of the most important elements of the reactor, and the quality requirements for primary and welding materials and technology are correspondingly high. The pressure compensator for Novovoronezhskaya NPP-2 is manufactured from 10GN2MFA steel, used in key nuclear power plant equipment (steam generators, collectors, etc.) for many years and having proved its reliability during years of operation of existing nuclear power plants.

The first reactor unit with 1200 MWt VVER-1200 reactor for Novovoronezhskaya NPP-2 is the head element of the NPP-2006 project. The project features a number of technological improvements which ensure increased safety and performance and allow to increase the lifetime of key equipment to 60 years.
