rebound in the recent years. Last year’s steelproducts
consumption in theconstruction segmentgrew
more than5%against2012.However, a recession
was registered in thedomestic longproductsmarket
at theendof2013. FromOctober to thebeginning
of January theprice for reinforcedbarsdropped
inMoscow from22.5—23k rubles/t to20.5—21k
rubles/t.The seasonaldrop inconsumption isnormal
howeverquotationsofprices for reinforcedbars
in January2014droppedmore than2.5k rubles/t
compared to thecorrespondingperiodof2013.
Demand for this typeofproductshasdropped
recentlynotonlydue to seasonal factors, but alsodue
tocutbackson someconstructionprojects.
Drop inprices in the longproductsdomestic
market ispartiallycausedbyoversupply.Having
facedexportsproblems,Ukrainian longproducts
manufacturershave turned toRussia. Inaddition
to thatNLMK-Kaluga, anelectric steelplantwas
commissioned last yearand twonewenterprises:
Severstal-Balakovo, a longproductsplant andTumen
ElectricSteelPlant aregradually reachingproductive
capacities. Facilities forproductionofmore than
2.5Mtof reinforcedbarsandother typesof long
productsmaybecommissioned inRussia in2013—
2015while the total outputof all the launchedand
planned for thenextfiveyearsprojects reachesabout
4Mt/y.
