Russian tubesandpipes industryhas
accomplishedaserious technologicalbreakthrough
producing todayalmost thewholerangeof tubular
products.Thisenables tubesandpipescompanies to
successfullycompetenotonly in theCustomsUnion
market,but in the internationalmarketsaswell.The
majorityof thekeyplayers in theRussian tubesand
pipesmarketaregraduallyadvancing toanew level
launching inaddition to tubesproductionsofoff-takes
and tubefittings trying toenternewnichemarketsand
increasevalue-addedproductsmanufacture.
Anever increasing steel-makinghasalwaysbeen
aprime indicatorof theglobal ferrous industry
development.Reportedly, theglobal liquid steel
productionwill reach1.57bnt in2013 (+4%against
2012).Traditionally, thegrowth isachievedmainly
due toChinaandotherAsiancountries.Thus,China
will increase steel-meltingby9.7% in2013whileAsia
asawholewill show7.3% increase. Simultaneously,
thedevelopedmarkets includingUSA,EU, and the
CISwill show9.2%drop inproduction.According to
Tubes IndustryDevelopmentFoundationestimates,
theglobal tubesproductionwill reacharound153Mt
in2013,whileRussiaaccounts for some6.7%of the
totalproduction.Thegrowth in theglobal tubes
production ismainlydue toChina.TheChina factor
today isofparamount importance for it accounts for
53%of the total volume,while theoutput isnot yet at
full capacity. IfChinaused its tube-making facilities
at full capacity (around107Mt/y) thecountrywould
account for70%of theglobal tubesproduction.
TodayChinaproduces81Mtof tubesproductsayear.
Infiveyears from2008 to2013,Chinahas increased
production in this segmentmore than84%.
Russianbigdiameterpipesmanufacturers
found themselves inachallenging situation in2013
(diagram1).Thedemand forbigdiameterpipes
for theconstructionofnewpipelinesdropped in II
halfof2011. Since themiddleof2011 to2013 the
percentageofprocessutilizationwasdecreasing.
