Buildinganelectric steel-meltingplant
on theold infrastructurebasewillnot
onlyensurecontinuous steel supplyof
thenew tubesandmodernized spring
plates facilities inChusovoy, but also
stirupOMKbusinessdevelopment for
so farVyksaSteelPlant (anOMKasset,
thebiggest inEuropemanufacturer
of solid-rolled railwaywheels)uses
open-hearth furnace steels for itsproduction. Itgoes
without saying that the technologyhasgoneoutof
datebotheconomicallyandecologically.Chusovoy
steel-melting facilitieswill ensure suppliesofhigh-
qualitycontinuouscast rounds toVyksawheel-
rolling facilities.The tubeand steel-meltingproject
isquiteambitious. “It isa littlemorecostlycompared
to thealready implemented inVyksaHeavyPlates
Mill-5000project (45bn rubles), however, as regards
tocomplexity, it ishard tofindamatch to it in the
Russian steel industry.This is thefirstprojectona
completemodernizationof abig steel-meltingplant
under theconditionofoperatingproduction.During
oneyearof itsdevelopment contests forequipment
designand supplieswereheld, a teamofprofessionals
wascreatedandadevelopment areawasallotted.

casing tubes line(capacity:120kt/y).The linecan
alsomanufacturecouplingsof146–426mm.The
productionprogram ismainly focusedon theoiland
gascomplex.Due to thecasing tubesUraltrubprom
will considerablyextend therangeofproductswhich
nowmainlyconsistsof linepipes. “The

always targeted isgetting tougher today;
itscapacityhasnotextendedmuch
however, thenumberofmarketplayers
hasgrown.Due to thenew lineour

MikhailovskMiningandDressing
Plant (aMetalloinvest asset) continues
constructionof the third induration
furnace, capacity: 5Mt/y, project cost: $450M.
Commissioning isplanned for theendof2014. In
addition to that twomainbuildingsofpelletizing
and induratingplantsarebuilt.The third induration
furnace inZheleznogorskwill become in fact the
first indurationmachine inRussiaafter thecollapse
of theSovietUnion.CurrentlyMikhailovskMining
andDressingPlantoperates two indurationmachines
with the total capacityof10Mt/y.Mikhailovsk
facilityaccounts for28.7%of the totaldomestic
nodulesproduction.Due tocommissioningof the
third induration furnace theoutputwill increase to
15Mt/y.According toS.Kretov,GeneralManager,
MikhailovskMiningandDressingPlant, due to
MikhailovskandLebedinsk facilitiesMetalloinvest
ranks third in theglobalnodulesproduction.
Metalloinvest continuesbuilding the thirdhot
briquetted ironplant atLebedinskMiningand
DressingPlant inGubkin, the total capacity: 1.8Mt/y,
theproject cost: about$850M.Thenewplantwill
become thebiggest in theworld.
All theabove-describedprojectshave justbeen
orwill soonbecommissioned. Inaddition to these
projects, hereand therenewprojectsareannounced
inRussiahowever implementationsof thoseprojects
arequitequestionabledue to theunstablemarket.
