OMK isa leader in the productionof
largediameterpipes (LDP).Thecompanycontrolsa
large shareof thedomesticmarketof casingpipes, oil
andgaspipes, specialpipes, fittings, andvalves.OMK
owns sevenmajormetallurgical companies inRussia
and theUnitedStates. In total, thecompanyemploys
more than30,000people.
TheOMK-madepipesandaccessoriesare
used inallmajor trunkpipelines inRussiaand
areexported toothercountries.Thecompanyhas
gainedmuchexperience inmakingand supplying
pipes forunderwaterpipeline sections.Oneof
OMK’smajor internationalprojects involved the
productionof largediameterpipeswithunique
technical specifications for thefirst and second lines
of theNordStreampipeline, theworld’s longest
underwatergasexport route. For thePortovaya
pump station,which is theNordStream starting
point,OMKmanufacturedpipes that canwithstand
pressuresofup to250atmospheres, aproject that
hasnocounterpart in theworld.Notably,OMK is
theonlyRussian supplierofpipes for thisproject.
“Throughout theyearsof thispartnership,wehave
nothadanycomplaintsabout thequalityofOMK
products,” saysHenningKothe,ProjectDirectorat
NordStreamAG. “The successfulparticipationof
thecompany in suchamajorproject asNordStream
hasallowed it tobecomeoneof the top international
suppliersofunderwaterpipelines in theworld.”
Inearly2014,UnitedMetallurgicalCompany
signedanagreement to supplymore than300km
ofpipes for theoffshore sectionof theSouthStream
gaspipelinedesigned for theuninterrupted supply
ofRussiangas to theEuropeanUnion. Its “steel–
sheets–pipes–pipelinefittings–pipelinevalves”
productionchainallowsOMK tomonitorproduct
qualityat allproduction stagesand toensure
customer satisfaction.
Over the last sevenyears,OMK’s investment
inproductionexpansionhasamounted tomore
than$5.5billion.Thecompanyhasupgraded the
productionof small andmediumdiameterpipes. It
hasbeen thefirstRussianmanufacturer to launch
theproductionof1420-mmpipes.Over theseyears,
OMKhasbuilt threemodern steelmaking sites in
Russiaand theUnitedStates.Today, thecompany is
implementinga large-scaleproject tobuilda steel and
pipe-makingcompound inRussia tomanufacture
high-strength seamless tubingandcasingpipeswith
premium threading.
Thecompany’sassets includeavarietyof social
policyand sustainabilityprojects in the regionswhere
OMKoperates.Thecompany ismaking significant
efforts to reduce the impactof itsoperationson the
environment.Over thepast eight years,OMKhas
investedmore than$183million in socialprojects
andmore than$33million inoccupational safetyand
healthandenvironmentalprojects. In fact, these two
typesof investment allocationsare steadilygrowing.
OMK supportseducational andathletic schools,
kindergartens, andchurches in the regionsof its
operations. It sponsors two soccerclubs, andassists
inpromotingnatural sciencesandahealthy lifestyle
cultureamongyoungpeople.Thedevelopmentof
amateur sportsprovides thebasis for successful
professional sports. Forexample, representatives
of thecityofChusovoihavewonabronzemedal in
mogul andagoldmedal inbobsleddingat theWinter
Olympics inSochi.
OMKalso fundsanumberof educational
institutions: theMoscow Instituteof Steel andAlloys
(MISA), andacollegeandpolytechnic schools in
VyksaandChusovoi.ThecompanyholdsArtOvrag,
anannual festival ofnewculture.OMKparticipated
in the restorationamanor-industrial complexof the
Batashevs-Shepelevs inVyksa, an importantpartof
Russianculturalheritage.OMK’s total investment
in supportof socialprojectsamounted tomore than
$15million in2013.
OMK is strongly involved incorporatecharity.
In2008, executivesandemployeesof thecompany
established theOMK-Uchastie foundation.
Itsprogramsare funded throughvolunteer
contributions from individuals including the
company foundersandemployees, andvolunteers.
OMK-Uchastiehelps
needychildrenand
families indistress.
It cooperateswith
agenciesproviding
targetedassistance
tochildrenwho lack
parental care, are
disabled, andchildren
from low-income
familiesand families
withmanychildren.Over thecourseoffiveyears,
OMKemployeeshave raised$530,000 through the
charitable foundationandhavehelped136needy
families.
